A Banner With Love From Weymouth to Rwanda

A Banner With Love From Weymouth to Rwanda

Following our CAFOD partner Odette Kayirere’s memorable visit to Weymouth parishes in July last year, CAFOD supporters in the parish of Our Lady Star of the Sea have been making a banner for Odette’s community in Rwanda.

Ladies from Our Lady Star of the Sea Weymouth, who designed and made a banner for CAFOD Connect2 community in Rwanda

The idea to make a banner for Odette’s community came about after her inspiring talk last year where she spoke about the genocide in her community and CAFOD’s work in solidarity with its brothers and sisters. “Myra Rich suggested that they make a banner for the parish of Our Lady of Victory in Rwanda,” says John, a CAFOD contact in the parish. “Odette expressed her thanks for this offer so off the sewers went. The photos show some of the ladies who made this lovely banner which is to be sent to Odette.”

Recently, the two groups in the parish who make these wonderful banners made a beautiful friendship quilt which was raffled in aid of a refuge for street children in Sao Paulo. Their work is so inspiring – using a talent and doing activities they enjoy in support of others is such a fantastic way to support CAFOD. Perhaps there is a way that you could use your own talents and, in such a simple way, transform the world.
