Up to 5,000 students and staff from 20 Catholic schools across Devon will take part in the annual sponsored ‘Run for Women’ on Friday 20 June.
The run aims not only to raise money for CAFOD’s vital work with women and girls but to help raise awareness of women’s rights, their sometimes difficult circumstances and the need to create a fairer world.
Maria Quinn, Chaplain at St Nicholas Primary School in Exeter, said: “On Monday, the children had a visit from Simon Giarchi, CAFOD’s Plymouth Manager. He talked to the children about women across the world and introduced the children to this fun event . We will be taking part in the fun run on the morning of 20th June within our own school grounds. Children will wear their school PE kit but any child raising £25 or more will receive a free Cafod T-shirt”. Now that’s an incentive!
Last year the run raised over £6000 .
