On the 3rd of October 2015 in support of CAFOD and Harvest Fast Day parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption Tavistock helped put on a Harvest Supper. The event was organised and coordinated by CAFOD volunteer Gillian Mill and Father John Greatbatch with the help of many parishioners who all played their part in making the evening a huge success. The evening generated an attendance of 50 people and raised over £800 for CAFOD. It started off in style with a traditional Harvest Supper with a variety of cold meats, salads and puddings being provided.
Parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption were also joined by two guest speakers, Simon Giarchi CAFOD Plymouth Diocesan Manager and Michel Mondengele who is the CAFOD country representative for Niger. Both Simon and Michel provided a thought provoking presentation about the work CAFOD is doing in Niger as well as the impacts climate change is having on the country. The evening ended with one of Father Johns famous Quiz’s and this capped the night off as a huge success.
James Ronan CAFOD volunteer said “It was really great to get Simon and Michel to join us, hearing first-hand about the work CAFOD is doing in our name is incredibly inspiring and it is really essential especially at parish events like this, to remember those most in need and that we can all play our part in helping to make a positive difference.”
Parishioner Anne Hughes said “It was lovely to see so many people gathered together for CAFOD and the atmosphere was lively. It was great to see such community spirit.”
CAFOD Plymouth would like to extend their thanks to Gillian Mill, Father John Greatbatch, Simon Giarchi, Michel Mondengele as well as all volunteers and parishioners who helped make the event a huge success.
